01 Who we are
Sayso (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is developed and published by Shabab Haider Siddique. You can reach us at [email protected].
This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app.
02 The short version
We do not run servers, we have no user accounts, and we do not collect, store, or sell your personal information. Your conversations, translations, and settings live on your iPhone. Two exceptions are described in full below: Apple’s speech recognition may process your audio, and our payment provider processes subscription data.
03 What stays on your device
All of the following is stored locally on your iPhone and is never transmitted to us:
- Conversation history — the original and translated text of conversations you choose to save, held in the app’s private Documents folder.
- Your settings — chosen languages, selected voices, voice speed, appearance, audio routing, haptics, and pacing preferences.
- Camera translations — text detected in the camera viewfinder and its translation, held in memory for the duration of the session only.
You can delete any saved conversation, or all of them, from the History screen at any time. Deleting the app removes all of this data from your device permanently.
04 Speech recognition
When you speak into the app, your voice is captured by the microphone and converted to text using Apple’s speech recognition, which is built into iOS.
By default, iOS may send your audio to Apple’s servers to transcribe it. This is Apple’s standard speech recognition behaviour and applies to many apps on your iPhone. That audio is handled under Apple’s Privacy Policy, not ours. We never see, receive, or store it.
If you want your speech to stay on your device, turn on On-device mode in Settings → Translation. This forces recognition to run entirely on your iPhone with no audio leaving it. It requires the relevant language to be downloaded to your device, and not every language supports it.
We do not record audio, we do not save audio files, and we do not transmit audio to any server of our own — we have none.
05 Translation
Text is translated using Apple’s on-device Translation framework. Once a language pair has been downloaded to your iPhone, translation runs entirely offline. We do not send text to any translation server of ours.
06 Camera
If you use camera translation, video frames are analysed entirely on your device using Apple’s Vision framework to detect text. Frames are processed in memory and discarded immediately. Nothing is uploaded, and no image is saved unless you explicitly tap the shutter — in which case the resulting picture is written to your own Photos library and nowhere else.
07 Subscriptions and payments
If you purchase a subscription, the transaction is handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, payment card, or billing address.
We use RevenueCat, Inc. to manage subscription entitlements — that is, to know whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives:
- an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID (not linked to your identity);
- your purchase and subscription status from Apple;
- basic device and app information such as device model, OS version, app version, country, and IP address.
RevenueCat processes this on our behalf as a data processor. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy. We do not link this information to your conversations, which RevenueCat never receives.
08 What we do not do
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not use advertising, ad networks, or ad identifiers.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we show no App Tracking Transparency prompt because we have nothing to track.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone for their own purposes.
- We do not create profiles or make automated decisions about you.
09 Permissions we ask for, and why
| Permission | Why | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | To hear what you say so it can be translated | Voice translation is unavailable; typed translation still works |
| Speech recognition | To convert speech to text (see section 4) | Voice translation is unavailable |
| Camera | To detect and translate text you point the camera at | Camera translation is unavailable |
| Photos (add only) | To save a translated picture when you tap the shutter | Captures cannot be saved; everything else works |
Each permission is requested only when you first use the feature that needs it, and you can change any of them at any time in iOS Settings.
10 Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Because we collect no personal information at all, there is nothing for us to delete — but if you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us at [email protected].
11 Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws — including access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection.
Because we hold no personal information about you, most of these rights are satisfied directly on your device: your data is in your hands, and deleting the app erases it. For anything relating to subscription data held by RevenueCat or Apple, contact us at [email protected] and we will assist within the timeframe the law requires.
We do not sell personal information, and we have never done so.
12 International transfers
Apple and RevenueCat may process the limited information described above on servers outside your country, including the United States, under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. See their respective privacy policies for details.
13 Security
Your data is protected by iOS itself: app storage is sandboxed and encrypted when your device is locked with a passcode. Communication with RevenueCat and Apple uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
14 Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information — in particular if we ever add cloud-based translation — we will update this policy and change the “Last updated” date before that version ships. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
